Frameless glass pool fencing across the Gold Coast.
12mm toughened glass panels with discreet 316 stainless spigot fixings. No posts, no top rail, no horizontal lines — just the pool and the view beyond. The canal-estate and architectural-build standard. ~$380–$520/lineal metre installed.
What frameless glass actually is.
Frameless glass pool fencing uses individual 12mm toughened (AS 1288 + AS 2208) glass panels fixed in pairs of 316 stainless spigot anchors set into the ground / paving. Typical panel width is 1.2–1.8m. No top rail, no posts, no horizontal members — the glass itself is the structural element.
Glass specification.
- Thickness: 12mm minimum for unsupported pool-fence application.
- Heat-soak treated to AS/NZS 2208 (eliminates nickel-sulphide spontaneous-fracture risk).
- Polished edges for safety and aesthetics.
- Panel size limit: max 1800mm wide for a single panel; longer runs use multiple panels with small 4–6mm gaps.
Spigot fixings — the make-or-break detail.
- 316 marine-grade stainless minimum for Gold Coast salt environment. Never 304.
- Electropolished finish for Sovereign Islands / Sanctuary Cove premium installs.
- Cast or machined body — cast is cheaper but more porous; machined is premium.
- Anchored into structural concrete, NOT into pavers alone (must penetrate paver and embed 80mm+ into concrete substrate).
- Sealed at paver penetration to prevent water ingress + future stone fracture.
Channel-glass premium option.
For ultra-premium canal-estate installations, glass is set into a 316 stainless U-channel recessed flush into the paving (instead of individual spigots). Result: no visible fixings at all, just the glass rising from the paving. Adds ~30-50% to cost but eliminates the spigot visual interruption. Common at Sanctuary Cove and Sovereign Islands.
Pricing — what drives cost.
- Glass cost: ~$140-$180/m² for standard 12mm toughened heat-soak.
- Spigots: $80-$160 per pair (cast 316) or $250-$450 (machined / electropolished).
- Labour: 2-4 hours per panel install including core-drilling pavers + anchor + level + glaze.
- Gates: $450-$1,200 each including self-closing hinge + self-latching hardware.
A typical 24m pool surround in frameless glass = ~$9,500-$13,000 installed. Add $700-$1,200 per gate. Channel-glass equivalent: $14K-$22K.
When frameless ISN’T the right answer.
- Heritage / character-zone street-facing: aluminium / timber may be required by council.
- High-impact zones near sports balls, pets, kids’ play areas: semi-frameless or aluminium is more forgiving (glass scratches and chips).
- Budget rental investment: semi-frameless or aluminium tube delivers same compliance at 30-60% lower cost.
- Mature landscape with established trees within 1m of fence line: tree root movement can lift spigots over years.
