What the QDC MP 3.4 actually requires.
Hinges — self-closing from ALL angles.
- Gate must self-close from a stopped position at any angle 0°-90°.
- Inspector tests this by pulling the gate fully open and releasing — it must self-close completely.
- Then by pulling it to 10°, 20°, 30°, 45° from closed — it must self-close from each.
- Then by manually placing it at 5° from closed — it must self-close from this near-closed position.
- Spring-loaded hinges typically lose tension after 3-5 years in salt air. We use double-spring designs that maintain tension longer.
Latch — height + child-resistance.
- Release mechanism at 1500mm minimum height from finished ground inside the pool zone.
- Single-handed operation (no two-step releases acceptable).
- Latch must engage automatically when the gate reaches closed position (no pushing required).
- Latch construction: 316 stainless or marine-grade aluminium. No plastic.

Hardware lifespan in coastal Gold Coast salt environment:
- 304 stainless: 3-5 years before visible rust + spring failure
- 316 stainless (standard): 10-15 years
- 316 stainless (electropolished + marine-grade): 15-25 years
- Aluminium with stainless internals: 8-12 years (springs are the failure point)
